L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer
Situated on one of our campsites in the Vendée or in an unusual accommodation in Saint-Michel-en-l’Herm, you’ll have the pleasure of discovering L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer in the southern Vendée.

What’s on in L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer?

L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer was born of the draining of the land following the creation of dikes by Dutch engineers, and stretches across the mouth of the Lay, making this channel and its picturesque old port the commune’s main point of activity.
Renowned for its beaches and fine sand dunes, L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer is the ideal spot for days of relaxation and idleness. The 3 lakes along the Lay river offer a range of water sports that will delight even the most adventurous.
The Anse de l’Aiguillon offers a unique, unmissable panorama of the Ile de Ré, the mouth of the Lay, the Port de La Pallice and the Pointe d’Arçay opposite.
Located in the heart of the town center, and in close proximity to the fishing port for fish auction sales, a variety of shops offer a wide range of fresh produce. A local market also takes place on Tuesday and Friday mornings, in the Place de l’Église.
Shellfish farming

Southern Vendée is renowned for its dynamic shellfish industry and exceptional seafood production. Here, the cultivation of oysters and Bouchot mussels, local specialties, shapes the maritime landscape and delights lovers of iodized flavors. These mussels, raised on submerged wooden stakes, benefit from an ideal environment, guaranteeing them a refined taste and tender flesh.
In addition to farming, inshore and offshore fishing is another of the region’s rich resources, offering a wide variety of fish and shellfish of unrivalled freshness. Visitors can discover this world by visiting the oyster beds, or by sampling these products directly at local markets and restaurants.

Whether it’s a stroll around the port, a guided tour or a gourmet tasting, shellfish farming is an essential part of Vendée’s maritime heritage.
